It's About Time

It's been a long time since I last posted (2 months almost).
It's not easy finding time to do those creative things I love.
It's about time I got back to quilting and blogging.
For once in a long time, I have a few free days.

And here's what I did...
Pin basted my Dilly Dally pinwheel quilt.
Just loving all the bright cheerful colors.
 And the white dots.
It is progress and I should be able to begin quilting soon.
Well as soon as my son goes back to Oregon
since he's staying in my sewing room for the holiday.

But I really don't want his time here to go by too fast.
It's so great to visit but it always seems too short.

At least I have something else to look forward to.

Hope your holidays are enjoyable and you
are finding time to spend with family and friends.

Thanks for visiting!

Polka Dot Pin Cushion Caddy

Between work being super busy and
all the sports I've been watching lately
my sewing and quilting time continues to be limited.

But since I'm still finding time to embroider
I decided to finally make this handy desperately needed
 Pin Cushion Caddy
The pincushion is weighted so it can be balanced
on the arm of a chair or the edge of a table.

There are several pockets for holding embroidery tools.

And finally a small bag to catch pesky little threads and
is removable for stand alone use by way of a button attachment.
A very clever pattern from Sew Mama Sew.
Oh and I used scraps from my Mint Chip Quilt so
I'll be cozy and coordinated.

Thanks for visiting.
And for more crafty fun,

Dilly Dally Done!

After all the prairie points were pinned....
I got to sew them down for good!
Well, except for the parts that are supposed to fly free in 3D...
But they're secured and don't they make a cute border?
So Dilly Dally Pinwheel Quilt Top is Done!
Next, the batting, backing, quilting, binding,
then finding it a special home.  : )

Keep sewing!

Prairie Points Everywhere

This weekend I folded and pressed
and folded and pressed the triangles for my prairie points:
And then I pinned
 and pinned
moved to my ironing board
and pinned
and pinned
until all the prairie point borders were in place.

More to follow tomorrow....

That Familiar Whir

So I'm back home, summer's come to an end and I finally had a chance to get back to my machine. Those Dilly Dally pinwheels have been on my mind for the last two months while I was away.
I definitely love the Orange & White 50-50 bar look.
As for the second one, originally I hadn't really considered using those
charm squares with the black.
Even though they are colorful, I wasn't quite sure how they'd fit in.
But then I just decided to go for it and see how it turned out.
And I think I'm not going to regret it!
There'll only be a few here and there in the finished quilt
and now I'm pretty sure it'll be an interesting touch.

So I'm happy to be sewing again
and also looking forward to visiting blogs and seeing all
the great creations and ideas floating around out there.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Oh Brother!

Another "out of the ordinary summer" and
another month passes between blog posts.

I'll stick to the short version...my BROTHER had hip replacement surgery
and I've been staying with him to help out while he recovers.

This means I've been away from my OTHER BROTHER....
...and do I ever miss it!
But, recovery is going quite well and I should be home soon.

In the meantime I'm making progress on my Raggedy Ann Redwork:
With the help of my mom, of course!

I've missed blogging too but finally have
had some time to browse and read blogs once again.
It's so nice getting reacquainted with bloggers
who inspire and encourage me.
And I feel like I'm back on track!

Raise Our Flag - Donate a Stitch

I haven't posted in an entire month!  So what have I been doing?  Well, for one, the Summer Olympics are almost here and I've been watching the team trials over the last few weeks.  I am fascinated by the talent and ability of all these athletes and the competition is exciting.  The most interesting so far has been the synchronized diving and tonight the women's gymnastics.  What does this have to do with sewing, you say? Well check this out:

I just added a stitch to help Raise Our Flag at the Summer Olympics.  Proceeds go to the support the USA Olympians but even if you don't want to donate a stitch you should check out the website to see a flash video of the flags being made.  Pretty dang cool!!    Below are my stitch numbers...I bought two!
Anyway, I thought it was a great way to participate in the Olympics and to celebrate the 4th of July - Independence Day!
Happy 4th!

Another Bloomin' (Macro) Monday

Pretty Orchid Blooms!

And from my son, Ian, on Mother's Day
Carnation Blooms!

And while I'm on the subject...
not too long ago I started this bloomin' stitchery...

And ended up with this finish

Still framing it...needs ribbon...
and let it take up space next to this bloomin' picture.

Happy Bloomin' Macro Monday!
